Though we are biased, there really are a lot of positives to island living in Roatan, not to mention property is very reasonably priced when compared to other Caribbean Islands. The island’s infrastructure has been going through some improvements with major road projects which will benefit the island for years to come and help assist with growing visitor numbers.
Don’t fear though, growing visitor numbers are great for the island’s economy and due to the island’s geography and wide open spaces there are lots of places that still feel like you have disconnected from the busy modern world and have settled into a more relaxed way of life.

| The Port Royal National Park covers approx 500 ha and is located in the Municipality of José Santos Guardiola. The National Park is mainly covered by pine forest, mixed forest, grasslands in areas of succession, and a variety of micro winter basins that drain to the north and south slopes of Roatán.
Within the National Park, there are some important water sources such as Cooper Hill and Picacho Hill, which supply water to the communities of Oak Ridge, Calabash Bight, Diamond Rock, Port Royal, and Camp Bay. You will also find Yellow Naped Parrots living in the wild, and a variety of rare flora and fauna.

Over the past few years, the dive community in Roatan has been very lucky with visits from Orcas, though rare it is amazing to see these wonderful animals grace the island’s shoreline once again just a few weeks ago.
Some amazing photos and videos were captured by the team at Sun Divers in West End, who were diving off West Bay and saw four Orcas in total including this calf and mother during their surface interval. Amazing!!!
