Twelve Searches
As we watched each episode, the same reasons kept coming up. They are the same ones we hear in the office every week.
Out of the cold
Minnesota, Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Vancouver Island, and a Canadian couple done with below zero. Winter is the show’s most reliable villain.
A different life
A business to build at Próspera, a slower pace than Charlotte, something other than New Jersey, and Amanda, who came for six weeks and met Jonathan on the beach.
The reef first
A scuba trip sold Stacy on the island. The Canadians came for the diving. Water sports sealed it for Linda. The reef is a few fins from shore.
Room for the family
A family of four out of Massachusetts, a mother and her college-age son, two moms and a boy named Kaden.
A vacation home first
Les and Anita, the newlyweds of 2012, Stacy and Ryan. The second home that has a way of becoming the first.

Why HGTV Keeps Coming Back to Roatan
The island is the easy part to explain. Turquoise water, a reef a few fins from shore, direct flights from Houston, Atlanta and Miami year-round, seasonally from Dallas, Denver, Minneapolis, Montreal and Toronto, and a community of North Americans who came for a week and stayed for good.
What an episode cannot show is everything after the reveal: the title search, the closing, the first year on island time. Our blog covers that part week by week. That is where Roatan Life Real Estate has lived since 2001, before the island kept an MLS, with Steve Hasz on Roatan since 1992.

Questions People Ask
Twelve so far, from “Honduras Home Hunt” in the show’s first season (2006) to “Building Próspera in Roatán, Honduras” (Season 212, October 1, 2026), with episodes in 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2019 and 2020 in between. HGTV has also released two Roatan recaps on its Tropic Like It’s Hot channel in 2026. The full index above lists every one with a link.
Across the island. The episodes move through Roatan’s beach communities on the west end, West End and West Bay among them, and, in the October 2026 episode, the east side around Próspera. Our Roatan Buyer’s Guide walks through each area, and the photo gallery shows them.
New episodes air on HGTV (check the HGTV schedule for your local time) and stream the next day on Max and Discovery+. HGTV also releases full-episode recaps on YouTube; the links above open them.
Yes. Honduras has had a working foreign ownership framework for more than thirty years. Individuals can hold a residential property in their own name, and larger parcels are held through a Honduran corporation the buyer controls. The Roatan Buyer’s & Relocation Guide walks through both paths.
HGTV casts the show itself through its own casting page, and buyers apply directly. Roatan Life Real Estate is not part of the casting process. What we can do is the part that comes before and after the cameras: finding the right property on Roatan and closing it cleanly.
