And now let’s find out why West End Roatan is a place to kick off those flip-flops and take it easy!
1. West End Roatan: A True Community
West End Village is one of the more traditional areas on the western side of Roatan. It has a mile-long oceanfront street lined with shops and homes owned by local families for generations. There is an awesome mixture of Honduran and expat families in West End, making it a true island community. You’ll find expats, islanders, mainlanders, and tourists all rubbing elbows and sharing this village.
There’s a real community feel here. You’ll see kids playing on the beach or riding bikes down the street and you’ll see neighbors greeting each other every step of the way as they walk along the main road. And you’ll also see plenty of folks walking around barefoot all day. This is a truly laidback lifestyle, so go ahead and kick off those flip-flops and get your toes in the sand.
There’s no need to try to impress anyone here; West End Roatan is a relaxed community.
2. A Variety of Real Estate Options
West End and Sandy Bay might be the two most diverse areas of Roatan, in terms of real estate options and opportunities. You can find very simple island-style wooden homes on stilts or you can find exquisite mansions with private pools and boats. Whatever you’re looking for, you can probably find it in West End!
3. And Eclectic Dining Options, Too
West End also boasts a plethora of dining options. At all hours of the day and night, you’ll have endless options to choose from. Grab a baleada for breakfast and finish your day with a Thai dinner over the water; American, Canadian, Honduran, Italian, Southeast Asian…you name it, you’ll find it in West End.
And, if it’s not there yet, just wait a few months and you’ll probably see a new place pop up or an old place take on a new chef and menu. Things change quickly in West End, which means you always have new places to try and enjoy!
4. Beachfront to Jungle, West End Has it All
The main road through West End Village is about a mile long and connects the beautiful beach heading towards West Bay all the way to the peninsula dividing Half Moon Bay and Mangrove Bight. West End also continues up and away from the coast, with one road leading to West Bay and the other heading toward Sandy Bay.
There is no clearly-defined border between areas, but both roads will still be considered West End for a stretch. And both directions have homes and businesses enjoying the serenity and beauty of Roatan’s lush tropical jungle.
So whether you want to wake up to the fishermen’s boats heading out each morning or fall asleep to the sounds of the jungle at night, West End Roatan could be your place!
5. Tourists Adore West End Village
From backpackers to lifers, everyone loves West End. Lifers are the divers who visit Roatan at least once a year (sometimes several times). West End is their beloved home-away-from-home. West End attracts tourists of all ages and budgets, so there is certainly always a need for vacation rentals!

But don’t fret. If you’d prefer a quiet escape, just avoid the main road in the evenings and you can enjoy the peace and quiet of your West End escape.
7. Dive Shops Galore! Plus More…
West End has traditionally been a dive shop haven, and that’s certainly still the case. But West End also now boasts an incredible variety of other entertainment and activity options. From art galleries to the Stanley Submarine, from day trips to other islands to deep-sea fishing to rope swings and more…West End has an amazing variety of things to do.
This is great for tourists, but it also means that the community gets to enjoy more fun activities, too. After all, if you’re moving to the Caribbean then you surely want to enjoy the island life as much as possible.
